Debbie Harbour presented a session today on how a kindergarten professional learning community can recognize a need and then meet together to develop a way to fill it! Six teachers at Chets Creek Elementary came together around their need to develop better vocabulary strategies and wrote a complete vocabulary unit based on the research of Beck and McKeown. The original PowerPoint also included several short video examples of teachers Maria Mallon and Haley Alvarado teaching from the vocabulary unit. Most exciting was that the vocabulary activities around 12 Kindergarten read-alouds are available free as a download from Debbie's blog! Check it out!
